William Cinea, Founder Botapreneurs
William Cinéa is a botanist, forester, and entrepreneur dedicated to reconnecting people with nature through science and action.
In 2003, he founded the Cayes Botanical Garden in Haiti with less than $50. Today, it has become the leading institution providing data to help decision-makers with restoration, conservation, and valuing plants.
To formalize his field experience, he earned a Diploma in Botanical Management at Kew and a Master’s in Plant Science with a concentration in Botanical Garden Leadership from Cornell University. He was personally coached by the world's most influential botanical garden leaders, including Peter Wyse Jackson, Donald Rakow, Gilles Vincent, and Christopher Dunn.
Recognized as a global conservation leader in 2020 by Kinship Conservation Fellowship, he also serves as a member of the BGCI International Advisory Council (IAC).
William’s mission is clear: to guide leaders and decision-makers in creating botanical gardens worldwide, and to mentor entrepreneurs and creators in developing plant-based solutions that address global challenges in health, food security, and environmental restoration—building a more resilient future for both people and the planet.
